Rewrite Your Story:
A Book-Making Group for Trauma Survivors
After experiencing trauma, the most important narrative we hold is the story that we tell ourselves. In this group, participants will learn the craft of book-binding in order to create your own space, and container, to re-write the personal narrative of your past trauma through both art-making & writing within your own handmade book.
About the Group
After experiencing trauma, the most important narrative we hold is the story that we tell ourselves. This group is focused on examining and then rewriting the story told to yourself about past trauma; this time to empower you to move forward with a new perspective and narrative about your experience(s). With the community of the group as support and the creative process as our guide; group participants will learn the craft of book-binding and create their own book from raw materials. Hands-on guidance from the group facilitator will be available throughout the group, with some book-making/book-binding materials pre-prepped for both ease and time.
The group will then focus on re-writing your story in three chapters: Past, Present & Future. Group participants can write and/or create art in their book to re-write damaging, self-blaming narratives into a new story. Focused on connecting to the light we all carry within, illuminating the resilience that has carried you this far; and lastly, opening up to your own transformative healing power as the foundation for moving forward upon.

An Art-Based Astrology Group
Over the course of 7 months meeting every other Saturday, delve into a creative exploration of your astrology natal chart through education on personal astrology, reflective art-making & group discussion. Deepen your understanding of yourself; revealing the profound and unique ways you think, create, and heal. Your natal chart is said to be the blueprint of your soul, crystallized in the stars.
Let's explore the cosmos within you.
About the Group
We will use both Hellenistic and Modern Western Astrology, and the whole sign house system, to equip group participants to interpret and reflect upon their natal/birth chart. A natal chart contains a system of planets in relation to one another, with each planet or aspect representing a part of the self. In many ways this mirrors the fundamental theory behind Internal Family Systems (IFS), which will inform how this group is facilitated.
During the initial group meeting, we'll begin by decorating a box to contain your natal chart and artwork created in subsequent group meetings; we'll also review some astrology fundamentals. During each subsequent group session, we will focus on an individual planet in the birth chart and create reflective art on how you relate to the energy of the planet (and any important aspects it makes). Lastly, we'll wrap up each 2 hour session with a group discussion about our artwork, personal insights about the current planet of focus; as well as the part(s) of ourself that it activates and how we see it manifest in our life experiences.
*Obtaining Your Natal Chart*
To participate in this group, you must know your date of birth and the city/state/country where you were born. Knowing your time of birth will allow you to know your ascendant/rising sign and apply the house system to your natal chart. Having your time of birth is ideal and will give you a complete picture of your natal/birth chart. Without a known birth time, while portions of information will be unavailable; you can still see the astrology signs of the planets in your natal chart and thus can participate in this group.

As an artist and art therapist, I am thrilled to be able to offer art-based support groups within the setting of an art studio. It has been years in the making to finally have both the space, and an expansive collection of art supplies and tools, that allows me the freedom to offer these upcoming groups in the new year. I look forward to cultivating connection and community through a creative lens, and exploring the possibilities of using art and creative expression in a small group setting.
In our upcoming virtual chronic pain support groups, as someone who has struggled through the ups and downs of chronic pain for decades; it is a privilege to offer support groups on a topic I once struggled to find others who could relate to the lived experience of years ago. I hope these groups can ease the isolation of chronic pain, create space for folx to speak honestly about their experiences, and share tools for coping with and/or accepting living within a body in pain.
Important Notice About Support Groups:
Resilience Community, while currently a branch of Resilience Counseling offering support groups facilitated by licensed clinicians, does not offer group psychotherapy.
Here's what that means:
Support groups are considered a "non-billable service" by health insurance, thus we are unable to bill insurance for these services. Additionally, support group participants are not entering into a formal therapeutic relationship with support group and/or workshop facilitator(s); and support group facilitators do not keep formal/clinical records regarding participants and their involvement with these groups. Conversely, in group psychotherapy (which we do not offer); group members are entering into a therapeutic relationship with the group facilitator and clinical psychotherapy records are kept on each member. If group psychotherapy is a covered service under your insurance plan & the group clinician is in-network, then your insurance would be billed for this service. While we require all participants to review & sign a consent form outlining this in more detail; this notice is on our website to ensure we're being upfront and clear from the start.
